Common told EW last month that he focused on “God, love, and blackness” for his new album, Black America Again. The first song from the collection, which he released Thursday, sounds like all those things.

The Chicago rapper shared “Lovestar,” a considered track, with hints of soul and gospel, that spans just over five minutes. Singer-songwriters Marsha Ambrosius and PJ join Common on the track, which is best summed up with the end of the MC’s second verse: “being in love is never out of style.” After the singing fades out, a dreamy instrumental creeps up and takes over the final minute.

Listen to “Lovestar” above. Black America Again drops Sept. 30.
