On screen, the members of the Justice League fight against supervillains, but in real life, the actors who play them are standing up for a more down-to-earth cause.
Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Ezra Miller shared a video lending their support to Rezpect Our Water, an organization protesting the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
“As a gang of earth defenders, we want to send a big shoutout to the Oceti Sakowin and those who stand with them in opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline,” Miller says in the video.
Young members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe launched the campaign to protest the construction, which they say will cross the Missouri River less than a mile from the Standing Rock reservation and potentially cause irreversible harm to both the community’s drinking water and the river’s ecosystem.
“Aquaman is pissed,” Momoa added on Instagram.
The quintet stars in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League movie, which is currently filming. Affleck plays Batman, Gadot stars as Wonder Woman, Fisher plays Cyborg, Momoa is Aquaman, and Miller plays The Flash. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 17, 2017.
So far, more than 260,000 people have signed a petition opposing the pipeline. Read more about Rezpect Our Water here.
