Amidst this modern wave of franchise reboots and reinventions, it has become standard to allow the original cast and creators to cameo in the latest edition of a series they made famous (i.e. Bill Murray and co. popping up in this summer’s Ghostbusters). However, that apparently won’t be happening in next year’s Power Rangers reboot. Walter Jones, who played Zack the Black Ranger in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series, recently told the Audibly Exquisite podcast that cameos from the original cast were unlikely.

With or without throwback cameos, Lionsgate’s Power Rangers film will hit theaters March 24, 2017, featuring Becky G, Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, and RJ Cyler as the new generation of suited superheroes. Elizabeth Banks will also star as Rita Repulsa, and Bryan Cranston will take on the role of Zordon.
