Gregg Allman is ready to return to the road after an undisclosed medical scare — and earlier than expected.
The singer-songwriter announced Tuesday he will play an acoustic set with guitarist Scott Sharrard at the Laid Back Red Rocks festival outside Denver on Sept. 25. Receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic, Allman’s doctors cleared him just a month after the 68-year-old canceled shows through Oct. 16.
“I just can’t wait to get back out there,” Allman said in a statement. “I’ve gotten so stir crazy these last few weeks. I feel best when I’m traveling and playing. That’s what keeps me going, and there’s no better place to start than Red Rocks.”
Allman will play again at Atlanta’s Laid Back festival on Oct. 29, an event he co-founded. He’ll have a brief residency at New York’s City Winery on Nov. 6.
