It Was Romance returned to the ’90s for their latest music video, remaking Fiona Apple’s iconic 1997 “Criminal” visual shot-for-shot.

Set to their song “Hooking Up With Girls,” the Lane Moore-led alt band swapped Apple’s heterosexual couple for a lesbian pair, featuring Moore navigating an after-hours party in various states of undress.

Apple’s original take won a 1998 VMA for Best Cinematography. The song, which celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year, appeared on her debut 1996 album Tidal. It was the record’s highest charting single, and later won a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.

“Fiona Apple has always been a huge influence for me musically, and I knew I wanted to pay homage to my favorite ’90s music videos,” Moore told Nylon of the video. “So when I realized the ‘Criminal’ video had a lot of similar visual and lyrical themes about vague sexual exploits that aren’t what they seem and are confusing and frustrating, it all clicked.”
