Maybe Donald Trump liked that 2015 viral video which proved Daniel LaRusso was the real villain in The Karate Kid.
During Trump’s speech about his immigration policies on Wednesday night, the Republican presidential candidate said it was “hard to believe, with the power we have” that America keeps getting beaten up. “We’re like the big bully that keeps getting beat up. You ever see that? The big bully that keeps getting beat up,” Trump said.
Those comments were mocked by Stephen Colbert on Thursday’s episode of The Late Show.
“Yeah, you know how poor defenseless bullies are always getting beaten up,” Colbert said. “Remember how bad you felt when that mean Karate Kid beat the crap out of Cobra Kai?” Colbert then drifted into a Trump impression to bring home his point. “That movie ended horribly. It ended horribly,” Colbert said. “This time, the bullies win. Trump 2016: Sweep the leg. … No mercy!”
In the 2015 video that “proved” Ralph Macchio’s Daniel was the villain of the hit film, the premise of The Karate Kid is described as being about a “violent sociopath who moves to a California town and begins tormenting a local boy and his friends.” Watch that alternate theory here, and check out Colbert’s latest attacks on Trump below.
