Pitch Perfect 3

  • Movie

Pitch Perfect 3 is going all in.

The a capella comedy has enlisted Step Up: All In director Trish Sie as its new helmer, filling the void left by Elizabeth Banks.

Banks — who called the shots on Pitch Perfect 2 but stepped down as director of the third installment in June — announced the news herself on Twitter. Posting a photo of her and Sie in front of two Pitch Perfect posters, she wrote, “#PitchPerfect has a new leader – so excited @bigbadtrish is directing #PP3!”

In addition to directing the fifth and final Step Up movie, Sie is known for helping create several popular music videos for OK Go, including the treadmill-powered viral hit “Here It Goes Again.” (OK Go frontman Damian Kulash is also Sie’s brother.)

Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson headline the returning cast of Pitch Perfect 3, which is scheduled to open Dec. 22, 2017. As on the first two films, Banks will serve as producer and is expected to make a cameo. Mike White (School of Rock) wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay, which was originally penned by Pitch veteran Kay Cannon.
