Long before Gaten Matarazzo survived that creature and brought his friends back together as Dustin in Stranger Things, he tore it up singing the national anthem at a New York Mets baseball game.

Joined by his older sister, Sabrina Matarazzo, Gaten belted “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 57,000-capacity Citi Field stadium in 2015. According to the New York Post, the talented Matarazzo siblings auditioned for the big gig with a cover of Pink’s “F—in’ Perfect.” Naturally, they crushed it and soon found themselves earning applause from baseball fans.

The 13-year-old’s star has risen as Netflix’s supernatural series took off this summer. Prior to bringing quirky and smart Dustin to life, Matarazzo made a name for himself on Broadway thanks to roles in Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Les Misérables. But he’s not the only Stranger Things kid with singing talent — earlier this month, Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) showed she has what it takes to perform “Valerie” by the late singer Amy Winehouse.

Watch video of Matarazzo’s throwback performance above, and then see how much fun he has with his costars in these Stranger Things set photos.
