Chris Brown released on bail following standoff with police
Chris Brown is out on bail after being arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon following an hours-long standoff with police at his Los Angeles mansion on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old singer posted $250,000 and was released after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Los Angeles County jail records show. He is expected to appear in court on Sept. 20.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, tweeted early Wednesday that Brown “is out and well.”
“The allegations against him are demonstrably false #TeamBreezy,” Geragos wrote.
The ordeal began at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday when police responded to a 911 call from a woman claiming the singer had threatened her with a gun, according to the Los Angeles Times.
LAPD Officer Tony Im previously told PEOPLE that the caller was “somebody screaming and asking for help.”
A more than 10-hour standoff ensued, with Brown remaining in the home and posting now-deleted Instagram videos in which he declared his innocence.
“Every three months y’all come up with something,” Brown said in one video, adding, “At the same time when I call the police for stalker people that are endangering my life, they don’t come until the next day.”
Officers entered Brown’s home along with Geragos just before 1 p.m. and the singer was taken into custody.
Police have not revealed the identity of the woman accusing Brown, but model Baylee Curran spoke out after the incident, telling Extra that the singer pointed a gun at her after when she visited his mansion to “have a business conversation.”
Celebrities and fans alike came to Brown’s defense as the situation unfolded. Early on Wednesday, singer Ray J posted an Instagram video of himself in which he said that he was “real upset” about the incident.
“You got just positive people around and you look outside and it’s like a war zone for no reason,” he said.
Brown posted the video on his own Instagram account, captioning the clip, “Real friends!!!!! The world will see!!! TRUST ME.”
