Always the contestant, never The Bachelor? Well, that was Nick Viall’s story… until now.

On Tuesday’s After Paradise, Nick Viall was officially announced as the next Bachelor. If you don’t know Nick’s story, he first appeared on Andi Dorfman’s season of The Bachelorette, where he was runner-up for Andi’s heart. He then made a second appearance on the franchise when he unexpectedly showed up during Kaitlyn Bristowe’s season of The Bachelorette. After she invited him to stay, he ended up making it to the final two, but once again, he walked away the runner-up.

Viall then joined Bachelor in Paradise‘s third season, where he seemed to hit it off with Jen Saviano, but — spoiler — it’s safe to say those two don’t work out if he’s headed back to Bachelor mansion. And this time around, he’ll be making the big decisions when The Bachelor returns in 2017.
