The couple behind HGTV’s home makeover show, Fixer Upper, have gone back to school — sort of.

Joanna and Chip Gaines partnered with the Wacoan, a local magazine in Waco, Texas, to overhaul a sixth grade math teacher’s classroom. Despite their busy schedule, the Gaines made time to give Ms. Nixon a space that would inspire her students to learn and be present in class.

“She was so thankful and loved her new classroom,” wrote Joanna on her blog, where she also posted pics of the renovated space. “More than anything, she was excited for her kids. That was what mattered to her the most. She knew a fun classroom would make her sixth graders excited about coming to math class.”

“Not every school district will let you hang shiplap or build window awnings in your room,” wrote the HGTV designer, “but everyone can plant a succulent garden in a window, put down an area rug to warm up all of the white, or use interesting containers to keep the room organized.”

See all the pictures of the makeover on Joanna’s blog.

Fixer Upper returns for its fourth season later in the fall.
