Derek Hough will be dancing his way back onto primetime for season 23 of Dancing With the Stars.
The performer confirmed the news on his Facebook page on Monday following press reports over the weekend that he headed back to the ballroom. “With my fall schedule freeing up I’m excited to say that I’ll be back on Dancing with the Stars for season 23,” Hough wrote. “It’s always great to be back with my DWTS family, coaching, creating and making lasting memories.”
The professional instructor sat out the spring season to star in Singin’ in the Rain on Broadway, but the dancer shared the project is now on hold. “Due to successes of the shows currently running, that project has been delayed because there simply isn’t a theatre available,” he wrote. “Singin’ in the Rain is still very much part of my future plans.”
Hough joined the series in season 5 as a professional dancer partnered with Beverly Hills, 90210 star Jennie Garth. Hough has since won the coveted Mirrorball Trophy six times alongside his celebrity partners, including former DWTS cohost Brooke Burke, Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey, country music star Kellie Pickler, Glee actress Amber Riley, and most recently TV personality Bindi Irwin in season 21.
Hough was recently announced to star in NBC’s upcoming production of Hairspray Live! as variety show host Corny Collins.
Season 23 of Dancing with the Stars returns Sept. 12, with the entire cast lineup announcement coming Tuesday on Good Morning America.
