Michael Phelps, who won five gold medals at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this month, revealed at the MTV Video Music Awards that he was listening to Future’s “Stick Talk” when he frowned at an opponent in a widely circulated meme.

Phelps appeared at the VMAs on Sunday to introduce a performance from the rapper. “There is no rapper more inspiring than Future,” Phelps said. The 32-year-old rapper made his VMAs debut on Sunday night with a performance of “F— Up Some Commas.”

During the Olympics, Phelps was shown flashing his game face at South African competitor Chad Le Clos before the 200 meter butterfly semifinals event. (Le Clos was dancing around Phelps.)

In addition to Future, Phelps’ pre-race playlist also included Eminem, Young Jeezy, and Eric Church.
