Calvin Harris took home the award for Best Male Video at Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards. With “This Is What You Came For” — which features this year’s Video Vanguard Award recipient Rihanna — Harris beat out a crowded field that also included Kanye West (“Famous”), Bryson Tiller (“Don’t”), The Weeknd (“Can’t Feel My Face”), and Drake (“Hotline Bling”).

Alicia Keys presented the award to Harris, who had prepared a taped acceptance speech due to touring obligations overseas. “I had a show tonight in the U.K., or else I would definitely be there,” he said. “Thanks, Rihanna, from the bottom of my heart. You’re a superstar.”

The award was the first of the night for Harris; the “This Is What You Came For Video” lost the Song of Summer honor, but could still win for best collaboration.

“This Is What You Came For” peaked at No. 3 on the Hot 100 earlier this month. Buzz surrounding the song, which was released in April, reignited in July when news broke that Harris’ ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift had co-written the song. Harris didn’t mention her in his acceptance speech.
