Barbra Streisand still has some beef with Siri.
During Streisand’s appearance on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the singer and host discussed the recent revelation that Streisand had spoken to Apple CEO Tim Cook about how the iPhone assistant pronounces her last name. (Siri says Streizand, not Streisand.)
“She pronounces my name wrong,” Streisand said in a recent interview with NPR. “Streisand with a soft S, like sand on the beach. I’ve been saying this for my whole career. And so what did I do? I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook, and he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name, finally, with the next update on Sep. 30.”
On The Tonight Show, Streisand relayed that story again, but then allowed Fallon to do a live experiment with Siri to hear how her name was pronounced.
“Hmm, let me think. Here’s what I found on the web for ‘How do you pronounce Barbra Streizand?'” Siri said. Both Fallon and Streisand castigated the computer voice for the error.
“Siri, you are wrong,” Fallon said. “I’m sitting next to her right now.”
Siri’s reply? “If you insist.”
