Christoph Waltz in talks for James Cameron's Alita: Battle Angel
He would join Rosa Salazar in the sci-fi film
Christoph Waltz will see you now.
The German-Austrian actor is in early talks to play the cybersurgeon and mentor Dr. Dyson Ido in James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi tale Alita: Battle Angel, EW has confirmed.
Waltz would join Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Insurgent) in the film, which is based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga series about an amnesiac cyborg bounty hunter toiling in a dystopian wasteland.
Cameron wrote the adaptation and is producing. Though he originally intended to direct, Cameron ultimately stepped down to concentrate on the Avatar franchise, leaving Robert Rodriguez to take the reins on Alita. The film is scheduled to hit theaters July 20, 2018.
Waltz was last seen on the big screen opposite Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie in The Legend of Tarzan, and his other upcoming movies include the period drama Tulip Fever and Alexander Payne’s satirical comedy Downsizing.
