Mark Mothersbaugh will help whip Thor: Ragnarok into shape.
The Devo co-founder has been tapped to compose the score for the third installment of Marvel’s film series starring Chris Hemsworth as the Norse god of thunder, EW has confirmed.
Although best known for his work with the plastic-lidded new-wave band behind songs like “Whip It” and “Gut Feeling,” Mothersbaugh is an accomplished film and TV composer whose credits include The Lego Movie, Rugrats, the Jump Street movies, Pitch Perfect 2, and several Wes Anderson tales. (He’s also a visual artist and eyewear designer.)
Mothersbaugh joins a creative team led by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows), who is directing Ragnarok from a script by Stephany Folsom.
Cast member Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/the Hulk, has described the film as “an intergalactic buddy road movie.” The star-studded ensemble also includes Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Tessa Thompson.
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to hit theaters Nov. 3.
