Olympic gymnast Simone Biles is capping off her extraordinary journey at the Rio Summer Games by serving as Team USA’s flag bearer for the Sunday night closing ceremony.

The United States Olympic Committee made the announcement on Saturday, and Biles called it “an incredible honor.”

“This experience has been the dream of a lifetime for me and my team, and I consider it a privilege to represent my country, the United States Olympic Committee and USA Gymnastics by carrying our flag,” she told “I also wish to thank the city of Rio de Janeiro, and the entire country of Brazil, for hosting an incredible Games.”

In addition to helping the U.S. women’s gymnastics squad snag nine medals, including a repeat team gold win, the decorated athlete caught the attention of Zac Efron, fellow gold medalist Simone Manuel, and a potential love interest in hunky Brazilian gymnast Arthur Mariano. In short, she had a pretty stellar summer.

Biles, 19, now becomes only the second gymnast to serve as flag bearer for Team USA in either the opening or closing ceremonies, as well as the first female gymnast to ever hold the honor.
