One of BBC presenter Dan Walker’s live broadcasts from the Rio Olympics this week was interrupted by a couple appearing to have sex on the beach in the background. Since then, Walker has become a viral sensation for his awkward reaction.
“For those asking what’s going on in the background now on social media now, we’re not going to zoom in but rest assured, it’s not that. It’s just a hug,” he said. “They’re reading a book. They’re reading a book in a strange pose. We’ll find out what the book is a little bit later on.”

Walker later took to Twitter, using the hashtag #Copacanoodle. “Just for clarification…they were reading a book!!! That couple were definitely reading a book.”
Users have since devised their own hashtags, which Walker says aren’t appropriate for TV. “Thank you for all the hashtags you’ve been sending in for the ‘book reading’ on the beach,” he tweeted. “None of them are broadcastable #Copacabanter.”
As funny as it is, this isn’t Walker’s first on-air interruption during the Olympics. With her bachelorette party in tow, bride-to-be Maria de Cezar joined the broadcaster for a few moments on camera. Walker joked, “You don’t get that on BBC One, do you?”
