Comedy Bang! Bang! to end this season
Time to say bye-bye to Comedy Bang! Bang!: The IFC series, based on an ongoing podcast of the same name, will end after its fifth season concludes this fall.
Host Scott Aukerman announced the news in a series of tweets Thursday. “We’ve had a great run, and I couldn’t be more proud of the show,” he wrote. “We have 10 final episodes premiering in October, and a great two-part finale.”
Comedy Bang! Bang! premiered in 2012 as an offbeat, Pee-wee’s Playhouse-esque late night talk show. Reggie Watts served as the bandleader until season 4, when he left to join The Late Late Show With James Corden. Kid Cudi then took over music duties until Weird Al Yankovic assumed the role in the beginning of the current season.
Each episode features celebrity guests — Kevin Bacon, Aubrey Plaza, and Zach Galifianakis are some of this season’s highlights — as well as comedians in character as sometimes a celebrity, sometimes something far stranger.
In his tweets, Aukerman promised that they “get to do some crazy stuff” in the final 10 episodes. “We had enough time to write something I feel is truly special and fans will love,” he said. He also thanked his co-hosts from over the years, the show’s guests, and IFC.
“Thanks @IFC for keeping something so weird on for so long!” he said. “They’ve been super supportive of what we’ve wanted to do.”
Catch up on Comedy Bang! Bang! on Netflix, where the first four seasons are currently streaming. The show’s final run will begin airing Friday, Oct. 28 at 11 p.m. ET, and the two-part series finale will air Dec. 10. Malin Akerman, Kaley Cuoco, Ben Folds, Gillian Jacobs, Allison Janney, Krysten Ritter, Paul F. Tompkins, and Adam Scott are among the guests set to appear in these episodes. Watts will also return.
