Last week, we got the new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but a new international version includes footage that reveals a little more about how the Rebels came to learn about the Death Star project.

It turns out the coded message they intercepted about the weapons test came from none other than the father of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso.

The young woman, who has been arrested by the Rebellion for unspecified crimes, has been estranged from her father since the age of 15, though we don’t fully understand the circumstances of their separation. Was it against her father’s will — or is he complicit in the Imperial plans? (The smart bet is the former.)

What we know about Mads Mikkelson’s Galen Erso is that he is one of the galaxy’s greatest scientific minds, and he has discovered something that is vital to the Empire’s weapon of planetary destruction. “He at one point invented something so beautiful, so fantastic, that it might change the universe,” Mikkelson told fans at Star Wars Celebration last month.

The Rebellion would love to get its hands on Galen, too, and his daughter may have ways of locating him, even if she doesn’t realize it herself.
