The moment Supernatural was renewed for its 12th season, it became the longest-running show in CW/WB history, surpassing 7th Heaven, which ran for 11 years. But if CW chief Mark Pedowitz has anything to say about it, the show’s still got a lot of gas left in the (Impala’s) tank.

“Jared [Padalecki] and Jenson [Ackles], I believe at least, they seem [like] they’re very happy,” Pedowitz said during the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Thursday. “I’m thrilled with the creative direction of the show. Creatively, the show is terrific. If the ratings hold, this show could outlast my tenure in this chair.”

Speaking to a potential Supernatural spin-off, Pedowitz says it’s still a possibility. The show attempted a spin-off during its ninth season with a backdoor pilot for Supernatural: Bloodlines, which followed a group of supernatural crime families in Chicago, but it failed to gain the attention the network was hoping for. Years later, a spin-off remains a topic of discussion.

“It’s still a priority,” Pedowitz said. “It just hasn’t happened. I leave it to the studio. When they’re ready to do it, we’ll be glad to have it developed.”

Supernatural returns Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
