Jay Pharoah is saying goodbye to his Saturday Night Live family.
On Instagram, the comedian shared a photo of himself alongside SNL cast member Vanessa Bayer and former show star Taran Killam, who — like Pharoah — has left the show ahead of its 42nd season.
“My fam for life,” Pharoah wrote. The post marked the first time Pharoah had referenced his departure since it was announced on Monday.
In an interview with Uproxx published after his exit, Killam said he was surprised by the decision and noted there was still one year left on his SNL contract, which was not picked up.
“I had sort of had it in my head I would make this upcoming year my last year, but then heard they weren’t going to pick up my contract,” he said. “I was never given a reason why, really. I can assume until the cows come home. But I do know I’m directing this movie [Why We’re Killing Gunther with Arnold Schwarzenegger] and I’ll have two months of post-production that would have bled into the SNL production schedule, so we kind of communicated that.”
In addition to Pharoah and Killam, featured player Jon Rudnitsky was also let go from SNL before its new season.
