Milla Jovovich is almost ready to close the book on zombie-slaying in the new trailer for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter — all she has to do is save the world first.

The sixth installment of Sony’s action-horror franchise finds Jovovich’s amnesiac heroine Alice once again battling hordes of T-virus-mutated creatures and the sinister Umbrella Corporation, all while searching for her own answers. And this time, she’ll finally get them.

As writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson told EW in a recent interview, “Normally when you try and wrap things up, it’s the end of something.” But The Final Chapter is “almost like an origin story at the same time because we’re finally revealing the truth as to who the Alice character is — who she is, where she came from, what her true back story is.”

As glimpsed in the trailer, the journey will involve a return to Raccoon City and the Hive, where it all began nearly 15 years ago. Anderson hopes the payoff will inspire viewers to revisit the entire series.

“I feel like one of my jobs is when you see this movie and you see how it all ends, hopefully what it does is it makes you re-evaluate the whole franchise and want to go back and re-watch the other movies,” he said.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter opens Jan. 27. Watch the first trailer above.
