Exclusive: Tony Hale comedy and Jim Jarmusch doc highlight fest

The full lineup for this year’s Austin Film Festival, which will include over 100 film screenings and multiple panels, doesn’t come out until September, but EW can exclusively announce the first 10 films in the Texas-set event’s lineup.

The lineup includes the world premiere of Brave New Jersey, a comedy starring Tony Hale and Anna Camp, and the Texas premiere of Gimme Danger, a documentary about Iggy Pop and the Stooges. See the first 10 below. Austin Film Festival takes place Oct. 13-20.

5 Doctors: World Premiere

Writers, directors, and actors Max Azulay and Matt Porter will be in attendance to support their film about a comedian who thinks he’s dying from a barrage of symptoms and decides to visit his five doctors in his childhood home town.

Brave New Jersey: World Premiere

The film’s writer-director Jody Lambert will be in Austin with his cast including Tony Hale, Anna Camp, Heather Burns, and Dan Bakkedahl. The comedy follows a small New Jersey town in 1938 amidst the hysteria Orson Welles’s “War of the Worlds” radio show caused as people thought an alien invasion was taking place.

Crunch Time: World Premiere of Season 1

Festival goers can check out the first season of Rooster Teeth’s comedy series about a a group of grad students who somehow caused the end of the world.

Diani and Devine Meet the Apocalypse: World Premiere

Etta Devine and Gabriel Diani co-wrote, co-directed, and star in their film about a comedy duo who hit the road with their pets as all power and forms of communication stop working as the apocalypse potentially starts.

Forushande (The Salesman): Texas Premiere

Audiences can check out the story of a young coupe in Tehran who move to a new apartment and are faced with trouble from the former tenant that then leaks into their marriage.

Gimme Danger: Texas Premiere

Director Jim Jarmusch examines music legend Iggy Pop and punk band the Stooges in a documentary about the famed music group.

Good Fortune: North American Premiere

Documentary directors Josha Tickell and Rebecca Harrell Tickell will be on hand for the North American debut of their documentary about John Paul DeJoria and his incredible “rags to riches” story.

Monogamish: North American Premiere

Italian Prince and filmmaker Tao Ruspoli will attend his North American premiere for his documentary about his post-divorce experience featuring conversations with experts and couples about sex and relationships.

ProGamer: World Premiere

Documentarian Justin Agnew debuts his feature about electronic sports through professional gamers Naniwa and White-Ra.

Quaker Oaths: World Premiere

Writer-director Louisiana Kreutz debuts her film about a Quaker couple seeking a divorce, but must track down all their wedding guests to cross their names off the wedding certificate as their tradition dictates.
