For the first two seasons of Gotham, Poison Ivy was a young girl around Bruce’s age. So when the show cast Maggie Geha as an adult Poison Ivy ahead of season 3, many fans wondered if there was a time jump in the series’ future. But long story short: There’s not.

In the official synopsis for Gotham‘s third season, Fox reveals just how the show is going to incorporate the grown-up Ivy into the story. The synopsis reads:

The series also will catch up with the future POISON IVY (Maggie Geha), who, after an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, finds herself reborn as a young woman who’s harnessed the full power of her charms; and will dive into the origin stories of JERVIS TETCH/MAD HATTER (Benedict Samuel), a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness; and the TWEED BROTHERS.

Gotham returns Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

Ben McKenzie and David Mazouz star in a dramatic look at what Gotham City looked like before Bruce Wayne became Batman.
