Fantasia Festival: 'For the Love of Spock' wins Best Documentary
For the Love of Spock has won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival, it was announced Thursday. This look at the life of the late Leonard Nimoy, and the iconic science fiction character he created, was directed by the actor’s son, Adam Nimoy, and features contributions from William Shatner, George Takei, Nichelle Nichols, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Neil deGrasse Tyson, J.J. Abrams, and Nimoy himself. The 20th edition of the Montreal-based Fantasia, which showcases genre films, wrapped Wednesday.
Other Fantasia winners include zombie film Train to Busan, which was named Best Feature and received the Audience Award for Best Asian Feature, and directors Guillermo del Toro and Takashi Miike, who received, respectively, the Cheval Noir Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
For the Love of Spock is released in theaters, on VOD, and via iTunes on Sept. 9. See the film’s trailer below.
