Rebel Wilson will star in the upcoming Dirty Rotten Scoundrels remake, her rep confirmed to EW.
The 1988 comedy’s modern-day take will chronicle the misadventures of two con women trying to swindle a naive tech prodigy’s fortune. The original film — a re-imagining of Marlon Brando and David Niven’s 1964 Bedtime Story — starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as two scam artists attempting to rip off a wealthy heiress. It grossed just over $42 million at the U.S. box office.
Wilson will also produce alongside Roger Birnbaum (RoboCop), and Jac Schaeffer (TiMER) penned the new screenplay.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is one in a string of remakes Wilson has eyed in recent years; the Australian actress has long been attached to a reboot of Goldie Hawn’s 1980 classic Private Benjamin and reportedly “begged” for a cameo in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, a big-screen adaption of the eponymous ’90s BBC sitcom.
Wilson last appeared in February rom-com How To Be Single and is set to reprise her role as Fat Amy in Pitch Perfect 3. No further details for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels have been announced.
