Beloved character actor Christopher Lloyd would seem to be a long way from Back to the Future territory in the trailer for new thriller, I Am Not a Serial Killer.

Directed by Billy O’Brien, and based on the novel by Dan Wells, the film concerns a teenager named John Wayne Cleaver (Max Records from Where the Wild Things Are) who is not a serial killer, but has all the makings of one. Keeping his homicidal tendencies and morbid obsessions with death and murder in check is a constant struggle for the 16-year-old that only gets harder when a real killer begins terrorizing his sleepy Midwestern town. In addition to Cleaver and Lloyd, the film also stars Breaking Bad’s Laura Fraser.

I Am Not a Serial Killer screens Aug. 2 at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal with star Lloyd in attendance. The film will be released by IFC Midnight in select theaters, on VOD, and via digital platforms on Aug. 26.
