On his own weekly late-night show, Last Week Tonight, John Oliver delivers long, often heavily-researched monologues about current events. It can be just as enjoyable, however, to watch him stop by other late-night shows and riff hilariously on topics like Coldplay’s Super Bowl halftime performance. On Wednesday night, Stephen Colbert brought Oliver to The Late Show to discuss the DNC. President Barack Obama’s speech stole most of the media spotlight, but Oliver only wanted to talk about vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine.

“If he’s going to be America’s step-dad, that was an exemplary performance,” Oliver said. “The level of dad jokes and impressions that came out of that man’s soft face — he is a tall glass of Lactaid.”

Colbert’s most important question, however, had nothing to do with Kaine or the DNC at all. Instead, it was about the new teaser for Netflix’s Gilmore Girls reboot, which ends with Lorelai (Lauren Graham) asking Rory (Alexis Bledel), “Do you think John Oliver would find me hot?” Colbert gave Oliver the chance to respond live.

“Lorelai, the answer is yes, I do find you hot,” Oliver said. “And I’ll tell you why: I’m a red-blooded male with an in-built heat detector, and my heat director registers you as en fuego.

“Do you know who would sound good saying that?” Colbert asked.

He and Oliver responded in unison, “Tim Kaine.”
