Gwen Stefani changed one young fan’s life with a simple act Wednesday night.

The pop star read a sign from the mother of a grade school boy that detailed his hard time in class. “My son was bullied from the first to fifth grade,” Stefani read, before adding a bewildered, “What?”

“He would come home everyday upset, but he’d go to his room, listen to your music, and smile,” the sign continued. At that point, Stefani called the boy up to the stage: “Get up here right now!” she exclaimed to cheers from the crowd.

The boy hugged Stefani through tears and was the recipient of some moving words. Stefani wrote on Instagram and explained how critical it is for her to be able to inspire fans.

“About 3 years ago when things were hard in my life I prayed to God everyday that I could get a chance to use my gift that God gave me and make a difference in some way in this world,” she writes, “last night this little guy was the answer to my prayers #zerotoleranceforbullies #onelove #thisiswhatthetruthfeelslike.”
