Garry Marshall’s The Flamingo Kid is going to be a stage musical. The show, which is eyeing a spring 2018 Broadway opening, will have music by Scott Frankel with book and lyrics by Robert L. Freedman (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder).

The 1984 film was directed and co-written by Marshall, who recently died at age 81, and starred Matt Dillon. Set in the summer of 1963, the comedy follows a Brooklyn teenager (Dillon) who takes a job at El Flamingo, a private beach club for rich Long Islanders. He proceeds to fall in love and contemplates his post-college future.

The stage version will feature music from 1963. No casting has been announced yet.
