When we last saw Ben Affleck on screen, he was playing a billionaire genius who secretly fights crime as the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In his next film, he’s tackling a somewhat similar role with a criminal twist, starring as an unassuming accounting genius who secretly jets around the world as he freelances for some of the most dangerous crooks on the planet.

Affleck stars as the titular genius Christian Wolff in Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant, and a new trailer for the Warner Bros. film introduces him first as a young math savant who’s a whiz with numbers but has trouble connecting with people. As an adult, he works for a small CPA office, but he also does some extracurricular accounting for notorious criminal organizations around the world. Soon, however, a Treasury Department official (played by J.K. Simmons) starts to put the pieces together just as Wolff starts looking into a seemingly legitimate client — a robotics company — with a naïve accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick). The result is a mysterious tale of intrigue and danger with plenty of gunfights, exposed secrets, and fried eggs.

Originally scheduled for release earlier this year, The Accountant is set to hit theaters on Oct. 14. Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow also star. See the trailer above.
