This week, Jesse Tyler Ferguson paid his Broadway neighbor Hamilton a visit during #Ham4Ham to audition for the dual role of Lafayette and Jefferson once filled by Tony-winning actor Daveed Diggs.

Ferguson joked that the role was actually written for him (Jefferson, like Ferguson, was a ginger), but in workshops of the show, they decided to take the musical in a different direction. Now that Diggs has left Hamilton, Ferguson told the crowd, “I assume they’re probably going to circle around and check my availability and my interest.” He proceeded to prove he could play the part by auditioning for the role with a dizzying rendition of “Getting Married Today” from Company.
