The 'Interstellar' actress joins Misty Copeland in the film
Mackenzie Foy is journeying to the Land of Sweets.
The Interstellar and Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn actress has landed the lead role of Clara in Disney’s live-action retelling of The Nutcracker, EW has confirmed.
Foy, 15, joins ballerina Misty Copeland in the film, which is titled The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Lasse Hallstrom (Chocolat) is directing from a script by Ashleigh Powell, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 short story, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”
The iconic holiday tale, made famous by the music of Tchaikovsky, centers on a girl whose nutcracker magically comes to life on Christmas Eve and battles evil mice. The Nutcracker is one of several live-action fairy tales in the works at Disney, including Beauty and the Beast, Maleficent 2, and a Tinker Bell movie.
In addition to playing the young daughter of Matthew McConaughey’s character in Interstellar and Renesmee in Breaking Dawn, Foy recently voiced the Little Girl in the animated adaptation of The Little Prince.
Variety first reported Foy’s casting.
