Saying Beetlejuice three times in hopes for a sequel might be a fruitless endeavor. Michael Keaton, who played the creepy character in the Tim Burton comedy, said he hasn’t been apprised of any plans for a second film.

“No. Zero. You always hear things, that this is happening, and people seem to know more about it than I do,” Keaton told Variety. “It’s possible that ship has sailed.”

Keaton said Burton’s vision and meticulous attention to detail would be necessary for a potential follow-up. “So much of it was improvised, and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton,” Keaton said. “If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone.”

Burton made similar comments earlier this year. “It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it’s one of those films where it has to be right,” Burton said in May. “It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel]; it’s not the Beetlejuice trilogy.”
