Chiwetel Ejiofor looks to be headed for the pulpit. The 12 Years a Slave actor is in negotiations to star in Come Sunday, Netflix’s drama about the controversial evangelical minister Carlton Pearson, EW has confirmed.

The film is to recount the true story of how Pearson, a popular pastor who was mentored by Oral Roberts and advised presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, was branded a heretic when he began preaching that there is no hell and most everyone will be saved.

Ejiofor would play Pearson in the film, joining Robert Redford, who is on board to play Roberts. Joshua Marston (Maria Full of Grace) is directing Come Sunday, which is based on a 2005 episode of the radio program This American Life.

Ejiofor’s recent credits include The Martian and Triple 9, and he’ll next be seen opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

The negotiations were first reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
