That and other revelations from his EW Tumblr Q&A with 'Light Between the Oceans' costar Alicia Vikander

Grab your tissues, ladies and gentlemen; Michael Fassbender and reigning Best Supporting Actress Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander lent their Academy-verified acting talents to Derek Cianfrance’s weepy drama The Light Between Oceans, and the duo tells EW’s Tumblr fans to expect waterworks galore as they prepare to watch the film.

Set for a Sept. 2 domestic release, The Light Between Oceans sees Fassbender and Vikander playing a lighthouse keeper and his wife who, amid a post-WWI Australian landscape, adopt a baby girl who washes ashore in an abandoned row boat.

The pair took over EW’s Tumblr account on Monday afternoon, dishing on the film’s melancholy tone as they answered user-submitted questions about their time on set, their favorite snack to consume while filming (hint: it’s alcohol), their mutual desire to direct movies in the future, and Fassbender’s (hard) love for James McAvoy.
