It was a battle of Daddy’s Little Monsters at EW’s Con-X.
EW’s Shirley Li emceed a Harley Quinn costume contest on Saturday, where she brought up Comic-Con attendees to show off their best black-and-red diamond outfit before judges (and Harley Quinn writers) Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner.
The husband-wife team has transformed Harley Quinn and her identity since taking over the comic in late 2013, when they shifted Quinn into a more complex and less outwardly villainous character.
“She represents every time something frustrates you, she is the person that gets to get it out of your system,” Conner said. “She’s also somebody who falls in love fast, and she falls in love hard, and she falls in fast loyally. She’s in love with love.”
Competitors drew inspiration from Margot Robbie’s look in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie and from Batman: The Animated Series.
