There are many reasons to be excited about The Flash putting its own spin on the game-changing DC Comics event Flashpoint, but the biggest one has to be the introduction of Wally West as Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale). When the cast of The Flash dropped by EW’s studio at San Diego Comic Con, they teased a bit of what to expect from Kid Flash.

“I don’t know exactly where we’re going for the whole length of the season with [Kid Flash], but in Flashpoint, it’s pretty cool. It’s not what you would expect,” Grant Gustin teases about Barry’s relationship with Kid Flash in the new season. “Barry gets to kind of see Kid Flash doing his thing as an outsider a little bit.”

Bringing Kid Flash into the show has also given Gustin a chance to work with Keiynan Lonsdale more. “I was teaching him how to do, like, my slide in—when we do the slide to a stop,” says Gustin. Having his own Flash suit to wear has taught Lonsdale just how hard Gustin works. “When you have the suit, you’re going to be working hard that day,” Lonsdale says. “Grant makes so much of it look so easy.”

The other big development for The Flash this year is the highly-anticipated midseason four-show crossover between it, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and The CW newcomer Supergirl. Several of the cast members are particularly excited about sojourning in National City, especially Jesse L. Martin.

“I’d love to work with Calista [Flockhart] again,” says Martin, adding that he doesn’t have a storyline in mind yet. “I’m hoping that at least we would be cool with each other.”
