If you’re still holding out hope that Idris Elba will one day play James Bond, the Star Trek Beyond actor has more disheartening news. During an interview that aired on Good Morning America on Thursday, Elba called his potential casting “the wildest rumor in the world.”

“I keep saying if it were to happen it would be the will of a nation because there hasn’t been any talks between me and the studio about any of that,” he said. “But everywhere I go people want that to happen, so.”

He added, laughing, “But if I’m really honest man, I think I’m too old for that man, running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible.”

Elba previously indulged questions regarding the largely fan-fueled effort to land him 007. “If it should happen, that’s proof there’s connectivity amongst human beings,” he told Variety in September. “If everyone wants something, they can make it happen.”

The actor was more blunt in a separate chat the following month: “I really have nothing constructive to say about James Bond. Apart from, it’s just a rumor.”

Elba may be too busy to play Bond, anyway. After voicing roles in Disney’s The Jungle Book and Zootopia, Elba is seen this weekend as the villain of Star Trek Beyond. He is also starring in The Dark Tower and will return as Heimdall for Thor: Ragnarok.
