The eighth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise has just raced across the halfway mark, and to celebrate, Vin Diesel and director F. Gary Gray have shared a behind-the-scenes update on how filming is shaping up.

“I have to say, it is going beyond my expectations, although my expectations were huge,” Diesel says. “It’s really remarkable to see everyone with so much desire to make something that honors all the fans that have been so loyal to the franchise for so long. We’re not going to let up because we know when you’ve got something special, you give it every ounce of your soul.”

The new video also teases plenty of epic action sequences and car chases. (We count at least six explosions and one guy falling out of a moving cab.)

“I can’t wait for you guys to see it,” Gray adds. “We’re halfway through, and we’re smiling for a reason.”

In addition to Diesel, we know that Dwayne Johnson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, and Jason Statham are all returning to the franchise. The new faces include Scott Eastwood, Kristofer Hivju, and Charlize Theron, who’ll be playing the villainous Cipher. Plus, Helen Mirren is confirmed to make an appearance (although she told EW that sadly, she won’t be behind the wheel.)

Fast 8 will hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
