Suicide Squad

The Joker is one of the greatest villains in comic book history — maybe even pop culture history. So even though he’s not the main focus of DC’s forthcoming Suicide Squad film, his presence is felt, and anticipation is high for Jared Leto’s interpretation of the iconic character. A new teaser previews the character further for hungry audiences, compiling clips from several of Leto’s scenes in the movie.

Where Jack Nicholson’s Joker was a scary clown and Heath Ledger’s an art-punk chaos theorist, Leto’s looks much more like a gangster — his incarnation of the character is decked out with rings, fancy cars, tattoos, and shiny, open blazers. The video also includes other interesting, creepy scenes of the Joker cleverly using his hand tattoo and lying at the center of a circle of knives, signifying that this Joker is indeed a new creation.

“You’re kind of walking upon hallowed ground, and it deserves the very best that you can do,” Leto recently told EW. “It takes over your life and that’s what I needed to do for myself.”
