French filmmakers Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol made a splash with their debut feature film, the Academy Award-nominated A Cat in Paris, and six years later, the duo is ready to release their follow-up. Phantom Boy continues the pair’s interest in quirky film noir presented in stylized, art-inspired animation.
In the new trailer for the film, which you can see exclusively above, a mysterious man declares himself the king of New York City. It’s up to Leo, a young boy with the ability to leave his body and fly around as a specter, to save the city. Leo teams up with an injured cop named Alex to take down the nefarious gangster who’s taken control of New York’s power supply.
Phantom Boy features the voice talents of Fred Armisen, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jared Padalecki. The movie is already playing in select theaters in New York, and will open in Los Angeles on Friday.
