Matthew McConaughey is going for the gold this Christmas.

The Oscar-winning actor will be back in the thick of awards season as his new film Gold arrives in theaters on Dec. 25. The film, which is inspired by a true story, is directed by fellow Oscar-winner Stephen Gaghan (Traffic).

McConaughey stars as Kenny Wells, a modern day prospector, whose pursuit of the American dream finds him setting off to find gold in the jungles of Indonesia. Finding the gold ends up being the easy part for Wells as his journey sends him into the most powerful Wall Street boardrooms in an effort to keep the bounty.

Gold, which also stars Edgar Ramírez and Bryce Dallas Howard, will be released only four days after McConaughey can been seen in the animated film Sing as a singing koala.
