The Tick (2017 series)

Amazon is gearing up to bring the laughs with three new comedy pilots. Next month, the streaming service will air pilots for the Jill Soloway-produced I Love Dick, Jean-Claude Van Damme starrer Jean Claude Van Johnson, and superhero reboot The Tick. As always, Amazon will decide which series to order based on user feedback to the pilots.

Based on Chris Kraus’ 1997 novel of the same name, I Love Dick will star Kevin Bacon as the charismatic Dick, a man who challenges the traditional ideas of love and monogamy held by the intellectual couple Chris and Sylvere, played by Kathryn Hahn and Griffin Dunne. The pilot is executive produced by Transparent team Jill Soloway and Andrea Sperling, and playwright Sarah Gubbins.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is one of the most famous action stars in the world, but now he’s taking on comedy. The new pilot Jean-Claude Van Johnson will see Van Damme playing a fictionalized version of himself, who uses the alias last name of Johnson to shed his movie stardom and become an actual secret agent. The show is produced by Van Damme, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and Peter Atencio, and will also star Phylicia Rashad, Moises Arias, and Kat Foster.

Finally, Amazon will also stream a new iteration of the classic comic book The Tick. The new series will star Guardians of the Galaxy actor Peter Serafinowicz as the title hero. Check out EW’s conversation with the reboot’s producers to learn more about how the new show plans to stand out.

All three comedy pilots will stream on Amazon on Aug. 19.
