James Corden mocks Melania Trump by plagiarizing David Letterman
Melania Trump’s plagiarism of Michelle Obama’s 2008 Democratic National Convention speech was the big news out of the first night of this week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Late-night hosts universally mocked it on their Tuesday night shows, but unlike Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon, James Corden didn’t go for a Trump impression. Instead, he just took a page out of Melania’s playbook, and did a little plagiarizing of his own.
“She had a lot of explanations, and we have them right here in our brand new segment. You guys are gonna love this: It’s The Late Late Show Top 10 List!” Corden said.
In case the David Letterman joke wasn’t obvious, Corden then proceeded to repeatedly call bandleader Reggie Watts “Paul,” after Paul Shaffer. Despite the obvious plagiarism, Corden actually made a pretty great Top 10 list. His “Top 10 Excuses Melania Gave for Plagiarizing” included such gems as “I played Pokemon Go until five minutes before the speech. I kill koala bear. Is that not one?” and “Who cares about plagiarizing? James Corden’s doing it right now.”
