Kevin Durant moving to the Golden State Warriors stunned and shook up the NBA world. It also prompted a secondary effect: The Based God has lifted his curse. And now, the rapper — a Bay Area native — is welcoming Durant to Oakland with an open letter.

“I still don’t think it really has set in, but Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors felt very natural — what it was supposed to be,” he told The Undefeated. “It felt so right.”

The Lil B and Durant beef dates back to January 2011 when the former Oklahoma City Thunder star tweeted about Lil B’s music. “I tried to listen to Lil B and my mind wouldn’t let me do it….can’t believe this guy is relevant,” Durant wrote.

In May 2011, Lil B struck back: “KEVIN DURANT WILL NEVER WIN THE TITLE AFTER HE SAID ‘LIL B’ IS A WACK RAPPER.” Durant has not won a championship since, but perhaps the tide has turned: Lil B lifted the curse about an hour after Durant’s July 4 announcement.

“The curse had to be removed for the simple fact that Kevin Durant has shown his humility by coming to the Warriors,” Lil B said. “Me being Lil B, I really feel like The Based God did it because The Based God is humble and very empathetic. Just from what I’ve seen, Kevin Durant has shown that he wants change.”

Besides a title, Lil B wants one more thing to happen: a game against Durant. “Our one-on-one game still has to happen. I think it’s for the love of the sport. The world wants to see it — hundreds of thousands, millions of people,” he writes. “They want to know what would happen with this game.”

With Durant, the Warriors are considered the odds-on favorite to win the NBA Championship. They lost in the Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers last season after besting Durant’s former team in the Western Conference Finals.
