The third season of Empire just got even hotter: EW can reveal that Taye Diggs (Murder in the First) is joining the Fox hit.

The actor, who also recently had a recurring role on on the Fox series Rosewood, will recur as Angelo Dubois, a New York councilman with a Harvard law degree and a wealthy family background. Instead of pursuing richer endeavors, Dubois instead focuses on local politics and community issues, which inspires Barack Obama comparisons.

Diggs is the latest guest star added to the Empire ranks for the third season. Earlier this month, EW revealed French Montana, ex-boyfriend of Khloé Kardashian, will appear in the season 3 premiere as a music mogul who’s part of Lucious Lyon’s inner circle.

“I requested Taye Diggs you know. Taye Diggs you owe me a Chanel bag!” star Taraji P. Henson joked to EW. “Okay whoever I get a job for on Empire, you owe me a Chanel bag.”

As for what fans can expect from Diggs’ character, Henson added, “Well, he’s sexy and he’s a smart politician. That’s all I know right now. And he loves him some cookies. And I hear he has, supposedly a very famous mother but I’m not sure… I’m not gonna start that rumor.”

The third season of Empire premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
