Fear the Walking Dead: Exclusive image and intel on the show's return

Fear the Walking Dead will return on Aug. 21 with the survivors facing a brand new challenge — separation from each other. After Celia’s compound was destroyed by Daniel, the group scattered. “The big question for the back half [of season 2] is when and how will the family reunite?” says showrunner Dave Erickson. “The interesting thing will be watching them splinter off in multiple directions and seeing how each group can survive and what they do to find their place in the apocalypse.”

One person looking to find his place is Nick, who chose to walk amongst the infected rather than stay with his mother and sister when things last left off. And now we have our first image of solo Nick when the show comes back for the second half of season 2, as well as scoop from the showrunner on what to expect from the former junkie when things continue.

“For Nick, he wants to find a place where people see the dead the way he does,” says Erickson, “where people see the dead not as a threat, not as a danger, but as an extension of themselves — sort of an evolution. That’s his goal. So, when he leaves, when he realizes Celia’s gone, and the compound is burned, he’s going to set out to find people who are more likeminded and will give him some clues along the way. And then it sort of falls into the be-careful-what-you-wish-for category. When he actually gets to a place with some degree of spiritual comfort for him. It’s not going to last very long.”
